How to Play  & FAQ'S

How to Play

Step 1: Shuffle the cards and deal seven cards to each player. Direct the players to keep their cards face down.

Step 2: Place the rest of the Black Uno cards in the center of the table. Let the cards lie face down in a pile. These cards will make the draw pile that players will take from throughout the game.

Step 3: Turn over the top card from the draw pile to start the game. Place the first card from the draw pile next to it, but leave it open (facing up).

Step 4: The player to the left of the card dealer should lay down a card from their hand that matches the color, number, word, or symbol on the card lying open in the table's center. Ask them to put their card on the discard pile. The next player should look for a card from their hand that they can play.

For example: If the top card in the discard pile is an 8 in purple, you could play any purple card or a card of any color with an 8 on it.

Step 5: If you don't have any cards that match the color, number, or symbol on the top card, pick a card from the draw pile to add to your hand. You can play this card immediately if it matches some aspect of the card on the table. If you can't play the card you just drew, the next player can take their turn.

Step 6: Apart from basic Black Uno cards that have numbers on them, there are trick cards. If you play a Switch card, you get to choose the color for the next play. If you put down a Draw card (Example: +2 card,) the next player must draw two cards from the deck, and their turn is skipped. If you play the Backwards card, you change the direction of play, so the person who played before you will then have another turn. A Backwards card has two arrows that are going in opposite directions. If you get a Pass card, a card with a circle with an “X” through it, the next player must skip their turn.

Step 7: Keep playing until one player has just one card left in their hand. In that case, the player must say "Black Uno," or they'll be penalized if any other player calls them out. If the player forgets to say " Black Uno," they CAN NOT exit the game and must draw a card. If no one notices that the player did not say "Black Uno," then the player is free from penalty.

Step 8: Play your last card to win the hand. Once you have only one card in hand (and you've already called "Black Uno"), wait until the gameplay goes around and comes back to you. If you can play your final card before anyone else, you'll be the round's winner! If you're unable to play your last card, pick another card and continue until someone's hand is empty.

Black UNO Tips and Tricks

If a player has a Switch card they can use it at any time during their turn.

Playing a Black Power Card is also equal to playing a standard Switch Card, but makes the next player draw cards/answer a trivia question, and also skip their turn.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need the Black Uno app in order to play?

In order to get the full experience of Black Uno, you must download the Black Uno Power Card app to your Android or iOS mobile device.

Where do I download the Black Uno app?

Android users can download the Black Uno Power Card app from the Google Play Store; iOS (iPhone/iPad) users can download from the Apple App Store.

Does the Black Uno app cost?

Nope! Just simply enter the activation code located on the back of your Black Uno card box, and your good to go!

What are "Black Power Cards?"

When a Player throws a Black Power Card, the next Player has the option to draw the notated number of cards, or generate a trivia question, using the Black Uno: Power Card mobile app.

If the Player answers wrong, they have to draw the notated number of cards. However, if the Player answers the question correctly, the Player who threw the card has to draw the notated number of cards.

Playing a Black Power Card is also equal to playing a standard Switch Card, but makes the next player draw cards/answer a trivia question, and also skip their turn.

Can we stack draw cards?

Absolutely! We call this a “stack attack.”

For example: Player 1 throws a +2 card. Instead of Player 2 drawing two cards, he/she throws a +4. Now, Player 3 has to draw a total of 6 cards. This process can continue until a Player decides to either draw the total amount of cards, or answer a trivia question (if a Black Power Card was used in the “stack attack.”)

If I answer the trivia question correctly after a “stack attack”, who has to draw all of these cards?

The Player who threw the last draw card (usually the previous turn) will have to draw the total amount of cards.

What is the "Trade Hands" card?

The Player who throws the Trade Hands card can swap hands with any Player of their choice.
